Sri Lanka Mountains and Peaks

In the central and southern parts of Sri Lanka there are several peaks that are highly ecological and rich in bio diversity. These mountains are preserved as forests and are the starting points of many rivers.  The Sri Pada mountain is Sri Lanka's holy peak where people make pilgrims to worship foot print of lord Buddha.
 
   
Sri Pada Mountain 2243 m
The only mountains in the world where four major religions get together and worship. To the Buddhist, the imprint found on the summit of the mountain is the hallowed footprint of the Lord Buddha hence the Name “Sri Pada”. To the Hindus, the footprint is that of God Shiva. To the Christians, it is the footprint of St. Thomas, and to the Islam, it’s the foot print of Adam, hence the title “Adam’s peak”.
   
  Pidirutalagala Mountain  2534 m
Sri Lanka's highest mountain which is 2534 m above sea level, it will take you through some exciting and anxious moments because of it's difficulty in getting to the top, but the climb is worth your effort, because it will take you through some beautiful scenery that one won't forget. One will come across beautiful small waterfalls, because many waterfalls begin from this mountain.
   
 

Knuckles  Mountain 1515 m
Knuckles is one the most important bio diversity environments with range of mountains and a great water and wild life resource. Loved by travellers for it's beauty Knuckles mountains has become a hot spot in eco tourism in Sri Lanka.

   
  Namunukula mountain 2035 m
Situated in Badulla district rising above tea plantations Namukula is one of best mountains in Sri Lanka for an eco adventure. From above you could see the flat plane of eastern forests that include Udawalawe and Yala.

Gongala Mountain
Situated in Rakwana mountain range Gongala is a great place for an eco experince of Sinharaja. From west side you can see the Sinharaja Rain Forest Mountains and Canopy. The Nothern and Eastern side will show you Rakwana and Balangoda as well as Udawalawe forest in the distance. The Southside view if most spectacular ranging the views to matara the sea town of south. The Drive to the mountain to is breathtaking.
   
World's End
One of the attraction of Horton plains is worlds end where one could see the fall to the Tea states down bellow. You can see a dramatic drop of 1312m from world end and a fantastic view of the surrounding hills and the mountain ranges wreathed in mists and clouds and on clear days even the Indian ocean which is about 81 km to the south is visible.
   
Sigriya
Sigiriya is a giant rock peak where King Kashayapa build his citadel and now a world heritage and declared as worlds eighth wonder. Sigiriya frescos and Ancient architectural master pieces of Sri Lankans are the main attractions in Sigiriya.
   
Mihintale
This sacred mountain peak was where Arahat Mahinda Thro met King Devanapiyatiss which change the History of Sri Lanka to establish Buddhism.
   
Batalegala Mountain
Named as Bible Rock by Europeans this fascinating mountain is seen from Kadugannwa pass on the Kandy Colombo Road. Situated in Aranayaka ecologically important area in central hills.
   
  Hunnasgiriya Mountain
A fascinating mountain of Knuckles Range is climbers paradise with it's ecology, water streams and surrounding scenes.
   
Hantana Mountains -Kandy
Famous among local climbers hantana can be seen from Kandy dressed in mist. A great place to go when you are in Kandy.
